Not Every Delivery Ends with Balloons
Steve Lucich, owner of Tan Oak Tractor Sales, shared one of his favorite customer moments: a tractor delivery that turned into a birthday surprise.
The Call from Nipomo
A woman from Nipomo called Steve asking about buying a tractor not for herself, but as a birthday gift for her husband.
“She told me he had a choice — a Harley or a tractor. He went out and bought the Harley. So she decided he was getting the tractor too.”
She wanted it to be a surprise. And Steve was all in.
The Setup
Steve worked with the woman and one of her relatives to choose the right model. On delivery day, he and his wife pulled over just outside the property, out of view. They decorated the tractor with:
- Balloons
- A big red bow
- Colorful ribbons
Then they called her and said, “We’re coming up the driveway now.”
The Surprise
The husband was standing outside with family, chatting, when the blue LS tractor rolled in, honking and decked out.
“The guy was just stunned. Couldn’t believe it. His old tractor was barely running, this one was a serious upgrade.”
That delivery wasn’t the end. Since then, they’ve come back for:
- A rotary mower
- A post hole digger
- More implements as their property needs evolved
